I Thought I Saw a Dead Person Last Night

Around 3 am this morning I got up to go to the bathroom. On my way, I looked outside and saw a man lying with his head and upper body on the sidewalk and his legs in the street. Half asleep, I didn’t think anything. I just did my business and went back to sleep

Some four hours later I got up again and saw the same man in the same position. He had not moved one iota. There was a stray dog barking at him. Now this began to concern me. I thought he might be dead. Maybe he had a heart attack. It might have been a robbery gone wrong. Perhaps it was a drug overdose. All these thoughts went through my head. Why hadn’t I thought of that before? He might be dead. I called the police and reported it to them. That took some time.

By the time I hung up with the police and looked out again, the man had risen on wobbly feet and stumbled off. There is a local bar about a block from the house.

He was not dead. Only dead drunk!
